The exhibition features the photographs taken within last dozen or so years, on the hazy and sunny days I have been exploring picturesque corners of the Białowieża Forest and Tuchola Forest. I am willing to share the beauty of these lands and their wildlife with my viewers!

The motto of the exposition:

“Above all things in nature, that live, breathe and sing, above all that love and long, I cherish forest trees… …And when I fall asleep for ever, may a majestic dream come about… May the hum of the Białowieża Forest lull me to my dreams…”

Julian Ejsmond, „W puszczy” (In the Forest).

FOUR SEASONS OF THE RIVER” – Dariusz Sarnowski

“I love this inaccessible river like one loves inaccessible women. Those demands, whims, dark secrets, constant unknowns and twisted meanders of danger, hundreds of obstacles, unfulfilled expectations and longings. Tens of ineffective attempts to win her. This is a difficult and demanding relationship, but there come the days and moments when she is mine… Just the way I want and desire!”

Dariusz Sarnowski

These words of the author of the exhibition tell a lot about the river to which he devoted the last few years of his photographic work. For the Drwęca River is not an easy one. Protected by backwaters in spring, in winter – by extents of treacherous sheets of ice that effectively prevent from reaching the mainstream, whereas, in summer and autumn, tightly overgrown by impenetrable vegetation. However, if one finds a way to break through all these inconveniences, a world of beautiful and remarkably diverse, and, what is most important, wild river, opens up. A world overfilled with bird songs, clanging of cranes, interspersed with paths of many animal species for which both the very river and the adjacent meadows, fields and woods provide food and shelter. The exhibition we are pleased to present constitutes a small but very interesting part of the images and experiences that the author was able to capture. Do come and see.

“Flow of Life – man is just one of the many elements of nature” – Krzysztof Sarapata and Tomasz Kotaś

The exhibition site – the Toruń Zoobotanical Garden

The vernissage – the 1st of December 2017, at 12 noon

The exhibition runs until the 31st of December 2017

Watching the invisible… discovering the invisible… attempting to look to the future by reaching to the past… It all is possible by means of the photographs. The mission of the exhibition is to raise awareness of people about nature surrounding us. The beauty that is long gone, but has been captured on the 18 photographs by Krzysztof Sarapata and Tomasz Kotaś. The authors take as for a journey deep into Lesser Poland, picturing magical corners of the river Skawa against the newly built water tank in Świnna Poręba. We attempt to capture the most of the beauty and diversity of our native sites of Lesser Poland, that were swamped over due to human interference. In the frames, we capture the “natives of the valley” who have no voice and are not able to defend their home, disadvantaged against the spatial planning authorities. We create a remembrance for the future generations, as well as a memorial for the people who know and visit these enchanting places full of various species of flora and fauna.

„Moimi ścieżkami…” (My Paths…) – Adam Adamski

The exhibition site – the District Museum in Toruń – The Museum of Travellers

The vernissage – the 1st of December 2017, at 4.30 pm

The exhibition runs until the 30th of December 2017

By kilometres, hours, days?  How to express the distance travelled, time spent on my photographic paths? How about going back in time and recalling all the memories and emotions that accompanied me on my journeys?  Each photograph I have created constitutes a fascinating story enchanted by the movement of a shutter. The hum of the sea, the taste of salt, the smell of seaweeds – these are the memories evoked by photographies of birds of Scotland and Norway. The trust these animals place in man allows for close and subtle relationship with the model photographed. Whereas, Polish landscapes evoke memories of fleeting colours of sunrises and sunsets, shoes soaked with the morning dew and a laughter of Friends with whom I have often spent these joyful photographic moments. I have found peace and tranquillity both hidden in a lookout while photographing birds and watching the mysteries of aquatic animals’ life through an aquarium glass. I try to pass my emotions accompanying the daily life of animals to the viewers, hoping that they will feel the tension associated with the captured scenes – for example, animals mating or feeding. I look towards the direction I came from and, through the haze of blurry memories, I barely see the beginning of the road. I look ahead and see paths, there is quite a few of them, but where they lead to?  Each one of them tempts, seduces and lures…. Thus, it is time to hit the road, make choices, discover new places in order to preserve new memories, captured by means of further “shots” of a shutter – on my paths….

Forests – green lungs of our planet. Once – cut through by arteries of rivers – they had reigned there, and to break away larger and larger areas from their domination constituted a measure of the progress of human civilisation. Nowadays, this determinant of our development seems to be the ability to rationalise the constantly dwindling forestal resources, their protection and restoration.

For people – a source of food, lumber, primaeval shelter, still a synonym of peace and order, and an antonym of the city rush. And finally, the most reliable place to escape when your mind hits rock bottom and orders you to start a war…. Significantly, this most primaeval, impenetrable, giving a sense of security forest is being called a sanctuary.

The photographers and filmmakers associated with the Włodzimierz Puchalski International Nature Film Festival have been asked for the photographs of “their” forests. Such commenced a story on the places and meetings. For each of the authors, a forest is a place of pursuing own passion, and often also a workplace. Places. From the Wiączyński Forest near Łódź, as far as the Bieszczady Mountains. Meetings. From the most common ones, such as a curious roebuck frightened on a meadow, to the ones often waited out for years – like the observation of the wolves, black storks or bears.
