2017 – Tomasz Kotaś Guest of the Festival

Director and scenarist - TOMASZ KOTAS

As a grandson of a gamekeeper, he has been watching nature since his early childhood. His artistic soul and fondness for preserving fleeting moments, whether on canvas, paper or film, continue.  His camera became his best friend in travels and in everyday life, and what was a passion at the beginning, has transformed into his way of life. He adores landscapes, wide and narrow shots where composition and colours create harmonies. He was born in 1976, in Wadowice, Poland. He graduated from Cracow School of Art.  For 15 years now, he has been associated with filmmaking, where, in 2001, along with his long-time friend, Krzysztof Sarapata, he established the independent Film Studio. In the recent years, Tomasz’s work has been strongly focused on the production of advertising films, but nowadays, on cinema production. His innovative approach to work, commitment to each realised project and his objectivity in decision-making constitute Tomasz’s strengths. In 2014, together with Krzysztof, they have made a tourist movie for Wadowice, titled: „Od świtu do zmierzchu” (From dawn to dusk) that has been awarded a second place for “The Best Tourist Movie 2015” in The International Film Art & Tourism Festival. He considers every movie an emotional journey leading the viewer through a crafted story.  It pictures something usually imperceptible. Each aspect of the filmmaking, from the first shots to the montage, sounding or colourisation, makes the film stay in the viewer’s mind for a long time.
